Mining Museum
One of France’s oldest mining museums
Mining ceased in 1880. In 1902, a benefactor from Molay-Littry collected objects and tools relating to mining and created a museum that is now one of Normandy’s places of interest.
Discover the history of the Littry coal mines in Normandy with Pierre, who will guide you through the reconstructed 70-meter-long gallery.

Visit the mine museum
Founded in 1907, the Musée de la Mine du Molay-Littry is one of the oldest mining museums in France: it was created on one of the largest extraction shafts on the Littry mining site, which was in operation from the mid-18th to the late 19th century. The mine museum welcomes visitors with a ten-minute documentary film, before offering a tour of the surface installations.
The main building houses numerous tools and objects, as well as the Périer brothers’ authentic steam engine. The highlight of the visit is a 70-meter-long gallery, which has been entirely reconstructed to offer an unforgettable immersive tour of the Littry coal-mining site.
After a visit to the gallery, there’s a space dedicated to Sainte Barbe, anda remarkable model of a building from the Bruay-Labuissière mine. The Mine Museum tour lasts 1h30 and can be accompanied by an audio-guide.
