Champrépus Zoo
Located in western Normandy, Champrépus Zoo is an original zoological park where plants and animals mingle to create a small natural world to visit with the whole family during your camping vacation in Calvados.
Champrépus zoo gardens
When you arrive at Champrépus Zoo, the gardens are often the first thing you notice. The Champrépus zoological gardens are well worth a visit! Several themes are explored, and a stroll through these gardens takes you to the four corners of the world. After crossing the exotic garden, we pass through the Asian garden, where bamboo and flowers mingle.
You’ll see gibbons and pandas. We then find ourselves in a tropical forest, surrounded by dozens of colorful birds. Next door is a mini-farm. A little further on, pink flamingos rest in a marsh. We’re then lulled by the scents of a delicate plant garden before heading off to Madagascar, where lemurs observe the water in the flower basins.
After passing through a grass garden where African animals live, we finally find ourselves in the middle of the Australian bush, where wallabies, penguins and prairie dogs live side by side.
Animals at Champrépus Zoo
Champrépus Zoo’s 60 animal species are divided into 6 areas. The mini-farm features donkeys, cows, rabbits and guinea pigs. They can’t wait for the kids! Nearby, in the Asian area, you can see gibbons, red pandas, koi carp and, above all, the Sumatran tiger, a majestic animal on the brink of extinction.
The tropical area is home to birds such as ibises and macaws. This is also where you can see real marmosets, herons and a Persian panther. Lemurs and makis also live in Madagascar. The vast African area is home to meerkats, giraffes, oryx, zebras, antelopes, otters and other predators.
It’s easy to spend dozens of minutes watching lions and cheetahs. Finally, you’ll find yourself in South Africa with Nono the penguin and his friends wallabies, coatis and prairie dogs.
